Stairway to... for heaven's sake...

Until recently the stairs from the basement/play area were a barrier. We could leave Alex down there for short spurts to play by herself, which she does very well.

This is no longer the case.
I think we need to start using the gates that we have!

You forgot a picture. Where is the picture of Alex's face when she realize she climbed the whole staircase?
And not that you want/need parenting tips but this one worked for us. Every time Alex climbs up the stairs make her crawl back down (by pulling her legs down each step as she faces the stairs) We did this with Megan and in no time she knew how to get down the stairs safe. We have never had a gate at the top of the stairs because Megan knew how to get down.
